Karel Lowette

Karel Lowette (°1958) finished his studies in the field of architecture in 1984 at Sint-Lucas architectuurinstituut in Brussels. Since then he is registered at the Order of Architects of the province Vlaams-Brabant.

During his studies, he has taken part to the ILAUD summer school (International Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Design) in Siena (Italy) under the guidance of architect Giancarlo De Carlo.

Afterwards he has acquired professional experience in several offices. From 1984 until 1986 he ran training period at TOP Office of Luc Deleu (Antwerp), Alphonse Hoppenbrouwers (Brussels) and Ausia (Brussels).

He worked successively as a collaborator at Sluw under the guidance of Lode Janssens (Brussels), Lucien Kroll (Brussels) and Henri Gaudin (Paris).

Finally, in 1989, he worked as project manager at Aries (Brussels), after which he set up his own architectural office, Architectuurbureau LOWETTE bvba in 1990.

The development of his own office was combined with an assignment as advisor of Mr. Charles Picque, chief minister of Brussels Capital Region, in charge of urbanism (1990-1994).

He regularly participates to additional trainings on various topics : increasing management skills, training for security coordinator etc. Workshops related, closely or remotely, to the construction world are rarely missed out.

Karel gives lectures at the Université Libre de Bruxelles for the training Formation en management communal. He teaches the course Contemporary Architecture in Brussels.

Since 1992, he has been part of the board of executives of the vzw ANCIENNE BELGIQUE in Brussels. Starting as vice-chairman from 1994, he becomes the chairman in 2002.

He has been an active member of VOKA committee Brussels (Flanders' chamber of commerce and industry) since 2003 and he became chairman in January 2008 till January 2011. Since January 2011, he is part of the board of executives.

Moreover he is a member of the executive committee of BECI (Brussels enterprises commerce and industry) since 2004 and he became vice chairman of the executive committee of BECI in 2007.
  

Since 2009 Karel Lowette is a member of the "Advisory board SN Brussels Airlines"


Since June 2011 he is a member of the board of the wastewater treatment company Aquiris in Brussels.


Since May 2011 architectuurbureau Lowette is a member of the association of architects G30 (more information on www.G30.be)
